Why I Made the Page.

The assignment was to make an "ugly 90's webpage". Stopping there would not suffice. Being born and raised in this decade, I felt like I owed it a certain homage that extended beyond making fun of outdated web graphics. Reflecting on the 90's, and my childhood altogether, is not just fun, but also entirely relevant. We 90's kids are going through a lot: we witnessed the transition from *analog, if you will, to digital overdrive. This site references this theme in sections such as Games , as well as remembering what good, "old-school" cartoons were like in Shows before stupid Teen Nick tookover. Younger generations will never know this. They will not remember fighting with their parents for the dial-up over the phone line. They won't know how cool it was to get your own plastic, transparent phone line in your room (in opposition to their knowledge of ubiquitous cell phones and unlimited data). They won't know the significance of Walkmans coverting to iPods. They won't recall the thrill of passing oragami-folded notes in classs, and how much more exhilarating that was than sneaking texts. People who were born in the nineties are growing up, and they can finally reflect on all these changes. Fuck, our friends on Facebook are having kids and getting married?!... yet, at the same time, when we try to be taken seriously in work settings, we always hear: "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU WERE BORN IN THE NINETIES!". It's a weird time for us. Making this simple and silly page gave me an opportunity to observe our contemporary moment by remembering the past and all that it meant to me. Thanks for reading and being a part of it.

nota bene: I could not make the right space nor find the right words to talk about the love of inflatable furniture, necessity of lava lamps/friendship bracelets, and the straight up #relationshipgoals of Corey and Topanga. Please forgive me.
